East Ham - A haven for South Indians

When I first went to East Ham in London for a minute I thought was walking in Chennai pavement.

There were people talking in Tamil everywhere and I was so amused to see all the famous South Indian restaurants like Saravana Bhavan, Vasantha Bhavan, Anjappar, Taste of India and many more lined up.

It is difficult to get Indian vegetables in London. Though ASDA (a huge department store) has a few varieties.
Indian vegetables and fruits can be found in Sakthi and Swathi, two major shops where they stock everything that you need to cook with your home style food.

I wanted to make panniyaaram and was searching for shops to get it. It needs to be electric hob friendly because we had that at home. I found a shop where they had panniyaram pans for electric hob and gas burners.

Bought it and made lovely panniyarams that week.

One major place all Indians especially south Indians visit in East Ham is the MahaLaksmi temple.

Earlier it was situated close to Saravana Bhavan but on July 10, 2016 they did a MahaKumbhabhishekam of a new temple just diagonally opposite to the East Ham train station.

The beauty of the temple and its deity can be felt only when you see it.
The pooja are done by priest with the mantras chanted perfectly. You can find all deities beautifully decked in jewellery.

On a weekend you can visit the temple, have food at one of the restaurants, buy your groceries for the weekend and come home happy.
